About

My eyes have come to see the changes literature can do to the society. Hi, my name is John Eilermann, and I’m a comparative literature student from St. Louis, Missouri. Long before I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in this field, I’ve already decided to become a lifelong learner, and comparative literature provides me with such a lot of aspects to learn.

The program I’m in follows a multidisciplinary approach that allows students to have minor courses in disciplines such as philosophy, politics and culture, literature with history, arts, and science. In working toward a degree in comparative literature, students are expected to cultivate the ability to read across linguistic boundaries, to find and highlight the meaning behind writing that may otherwise be deemed obscure by other nations and their language.

For most people, comparative literature may be a poor choice for a degree, given that the society is hyped by technology and the instant gratification it offers. Yet, one is given avenues to drive in and fields to thrive in as this discipline provides limitless possibilities in all industries.

Growing up, I’ve read books by Roald Dahl, C.S Lewis, Nick Hornby, Ned Vizzini, Jonathan Franzen, and many others.
